For this project I started with the drums, creating several layers with timpani, bongos, tambourine, snare brushes, shakers
and sticks were added near the very end. After I got the main percussion in I added strings, which later turned into an organ.
This song portrays the somber, gray, days and weeks of spring in indiana when the rain never stops.
I learned Ableton while working on this project, it took me roughly 4 hours to figure out the program. Once I felt comfortable with the program
it took me about 7 hours to add all the layers. I enjoyed using this software and see myself using it again in the future, possibly after college
when I have more free time.
For this project I took inspiration from the polymetric patterns of Indian and African drumming. I was going to do something more jazzy using
my drum kit, but decided it was better to learn a new software and branch out a bit. The sound ended up a little lo-fi.
This was a little more unintentional but it is what came to me as I was moving along within the software.
While intimidated at times by this project, I am happy with how it went, and like what I created. Experimenting with the
polyrythms to create the sound and layering that I wanted was a lot of fun.
The drum kit part had no structure or written parts I just turned my camera on and improvised.
